The Importance of Websites
As a business owner, your to-do list is probably ever-growing, and your cup of tea might not be building and running a website. Resources like Squarespace create an easy route to build something fast to get your business online. But cutting corners doesn’t cut it. A poorly thought-out website is off-putting to potential customers, and if they can’t find the information they need, they will hit that X icon faster than you can say, “I need a web designer.”
And even worse… If your business does not have a website at all, you are probably losing a big chunk of customers.
In my opinion, I don’t take a business seriously if they don’t have a website. I know I can’t be the only one who thinks that!
That’s where we come in. At Verdant Creative, we specialize in designing and developing beautiful and engaging websites. Web design is so much more than fun fonts, crazy colors, and pretty pictures. It’s about functionality, responsiveness, and informativeness.
Not what you expected? Here’s why.
Why websites are more complex than you think…
Functionality
Do you find yourself getting frustrated when you can’t find the information you’re looking for on a website? Is the design of a website really awesome but maybe a little hard to navigate? Are you trying to use a feature on a website but it’s just not working? It’s important to consider the technical part of a website before design when developing. We live by function over design for these reasons.
Responsiveness
A website needs to be a shapeshifter (quite literally). With multiple screen sizes between computers, phones, and tablets, it’s very important that web design is fluid between all. A responsive design means that a website reacts to what screen size it’s being viewed on.
Informativeness
A user comes to your website to learn more about your brand, product, or service. If your website is vague, a user will become disinterested and leave. Tell your story! People eat up transparency and honesty. Explain your services well and make it easy for someone to contact you. Leave no stone unturned.
Once these bases are covered, then it’s time to consider fonts, colors, and photography. And even then, it’s not about your favorite color.
Color, font, and photography play an important role in the three aspects we discussed above. You could say they are like supporting actors. Let’s briefly discuss why they are big supporters.
Color
Color plays a big role in how it makes your customers feel. Are they empowered and alert or calm and relaxed? (what colors did you think of when you read those words?)
Font
Legibility is key. Choosing the right font for a heading versus the body copy is also key. And just like color, font plays a part in the mood and design of the page.
Photography
They say a picture is worth a thousand words…And they’re right! Having great photography not only looks professional and pleasing but brings a human quality to a digital space. It creates a connection between the viewer and the screen. (ah! Real people!)
In conclusion…
More time consuming than you thought? A great website is an investment but so worth it. We’d love to sit down with you to discuss creating a custom website to grow your business.
We take the time to research your competition, figure out what works and what doesn’t, determine how to stand out from the rest, create a strategy, develop a custom design, and manage and host your website.
